The Kings of Sky Dukot Book One Revelations edition by Benton Harrison Literature Fiction eBooks

In Atlan King Willem Adrika has decided to split his kingdom amongst his three sons. This surprises all of Atlan, which has thirteen other kingdoms. His youngest son, Prince Jesare, is thrilled to have been given his beloved Dukot Mountains but also a bit panicked about ruling alone. So he decides to go off to the kingdom Jamor to find a queen for his kingdom and counselor/companion for himself.
Jamor is ruled by the strong-armed King Alfranco Jamor. He does indeed have four beautiful daughters and one handsome son. So Prince Jesare is certain he can find a queen there. Much to his surprise though, it is Prince Steron Jamor who he just can’t stop thinking about.
Set in modern day 2013 there are no dark and dingy castles or knights with swords stabbing and slicing everything in sight. Instead, the monarchs of Atlan have to deal with social, political, economic issues, and their place in the modern world. This book has three distinct parts. Part one is Prince Jesare falling for Prince Steron. Part two is them solidifying their place with each other and their kingdom. Part three is resolving what conflict there is, marrying twice, and setting up for the next book in the series.

I have mixed feelings about this book. Yes, it was enjoyable, and it had interesting main and supporting characters. I really liked the setting and the premise - a modern day Atlantis. However, some things just felt forced and unrealistic. The good
Prince Steron and Prince Jesare were likable, and the way they meet and fall for each other was plausible, considering the arranged marriage nature. The subsequent adventures and meets and greets throughout the country were entertaining, and I thought the family members (for the most part) were believable.
The background information
I was grateful that the setting was quickly set at the beginning, since it wasn't quite a traditional fantasy and also not quite present day. The kingdom was different from any of today's monarchies - Asian, European, or Middle Eastern - so establishing the nature of the country was helpful.
Monarchs and Laws
Two things that really puzzled me were the descriptions of all the monarchs in the kingdom and the major laws that governed the country. To be honest, it was information overload and completely unnecessary. Even though the edicts were included as an addendum, it still felt like too much. As for the monarchs - too many to count. Personally, I think it would've been best for the author to have this information as a "cheat sheet" in the background rather than to include it in the book. Ok, I get that Atlan's kingdoms are like states/provinces in a country, or even countries/nations within the EU. But, the government seemed so dysfunctional for the supposedly advanced civilization of Atlantis. Splitting and merging of kingdoms multiple times in such a short span was just pushing it.
Judicial System
Without spoiling the story, let's just say that the main characters (naturally) encounter some obstacles, which in this case involves corruption. The corruption is exposed, and the offending parties are punished. Well, the trial, if you can call it that, lasts a day, with no appeal and is quickly followed by a sentencing. HUH? In most developed countries, this scandal would be so widely reported that the news coverage alone would last for months, if not years.
The biggest disappointment to me was the... magical... elements of the book that completely threw me off.
Overall, I'd love to read the sequel, but the story certainly has its issues.

A sweet m/m romance in which there is a HEA. I think it is worth reading. I look forward to reading his other stories.
